After an initial design review on the progress of the design project, we offer an introduction to Design Thinking to the participant in the form of a feedback and tutorial session. It will cover gaps not covered in prior lectures.
This clinic explore how design mindsets and methods can power the development of new device systems, services and products rooted in identified medical unmet needs.
This is a one on one consult clinic lasts an hour for each design team.
The participants for each design team will be given 15 minutes to present their design followed by a tear down and analysis.
What will be covered:
Identify the elements of the design and followed by a tear down
How to use patent search results as a design tool
Design tools and principles
Complementary configurations
How to define design as a hierarchical structure
Eleminating an essential component
Substituting a component from another design (repurpose from an unrelated design, give example)
How to avoid creating a bigger design issue after solving an existing issue How to use MAUDE database for adverse event reporting as a design tool
Distilling design into an embodiment for a patent application (related to #1)
An example of a good industrial design
Example of a good industrial design
The Gillette Fusion Proglide a tear down of a good industrial design
packaging (how to make prototype tray)
ease of use consideration
Participant will be given a package and they will asked to give a verbal analysis of the merits of this industrial design.
