Why is Singapore so rich? ย See this video here.

The English name of "Singapore" is an anglicisation of the native Malay name for the country, Singapura, which was in turn derived from the Sanskrit word for lion.

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT SINGAPOREย

Per capita GDP

Singaporeย  $90,000

USย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  $60,000

Singapore is by far wealthier than the US. There are no homeless people anywhere in Singapore. By other measures Singapore has a higher median disposable income than US!ย  Because it has a lower tax rate and also a relatively lower cost of living.ย  Singapore has a home-ownership rate of 91%.ย ย

It was pointed out to me that there are in fact homeless in Singapore but they are hidden.ย  You will have to look to find them especially only if you have worked in charities would you realise this.ย  This is unlike Market Street in San Francisco where the homeless are in full public view for all to see.ย  Many homeless all over the world are either elderly or schizophrenic.ย  Homelessness is thus a combination of economic, social, aging and a medical problem.

Singapore has one of the highest number of millionaire per capita in the world!ย  If you own a private condo or house you are practically a millionaire.

Singapore is a tax heaven for its citizens and permanent residents. It has one of the lowest personal and corporate tax rate.ย  It also has no dividend or capital gain tax.

The Singapore passport is rated as the most desirable in the world as it has access to more countries in the world than any passport except for the Japanese passport!

Singapore is one of the safest city to in the world to live in.ย  Petty crimes are minimal and unsolved major crimes are rare!ย  A young woman it is safe to go out for a meal alone at 2 am in the morning and not expected to be molested.ย  Yet you hardly see any policemen around.ย  I have lived in Singapore for over 2 decades and have never encountered a crime or heard of anyone who has.

Read about the remarkable Singapore arm forces.

Singapore has a larger air force than Sweden.ย  Singapore's air force boasts 60 US made F-16C/D and 40 F-15SG that were designed specifically for the the Singapore Air Force. They also operate 20 AH-64D Apache Longbow helicopters, one of the best.

The straight road leading to the Changi International Airport has trees in huge pots lining both sides of the road.ย  In the event of an attack and the runway at the airport is cratered, the roads outside the airport can be quickly converted into runwaysย  within an hour by moving aside the potted trees.

Because of the very limited airspace, the Singapore air force holds its training in the United States, Canada, Australia and other countries. To avoid a surprise attack and their fearsome air force being eliminated, squadrons of Singapore fighter aircrafts are stationed in the United States and other countries.ย  The overseas squadron can be deployed back to Singapore within a few hours or within 24 hours from the US.

Tanks, tanks and tanks.

Singapore has more tanks than Italy.ย ย

Singapore's army has some of the best fighting equipment in service, and much of it are either entirely produced or improved on by domestic companies such as SG Kinetics and others.ย  The fighting vehicles include the Leopard 2SG main battle tank, the Bionix Infantry Fighting Vehicle, and the Terrex Infantry Carrier Vehicle. The country also has compulsory military service, and can quickly mobilize its army for war at a moments notice.

Disclosure my nephew is a commanding major inย  the SAF tank unit but he did not contribute to these open statisticsย  .

It is even more remarkable that bothย  Sweden and Italy each has more than 10 times the population of Singapore.ย

Also Singapore has beaten many countries to develop a potential COVID treatment. See my articleย  www.aceblaster.com/covid and share these interesting facts about Singapore with all your friends.

Let's now talk about the super world class subway system (MRT) in Singapore.

Singapore has one of the best public transportation in the world.

Singapore is the most expensive city in the world to own a car.ย  A family car can cost up to $150,000 to get the car on the road after government taxes are included.ย  The government discourage private care ownership to alleviate traffic jams. Unlike other cities in Asia like Bangkok, Hong Kong and Shanghai, there are no traffic jams in Singapore.ย  The pollution index is low in Singapore and is one of the many reasons many expatriates chose to live in Singapore.

The government compensate the restriction on private car ownership by providing an affordable andย  efficient public transportation system.ย  This world class subway system criss crosses the whole island (see image) and it is linked with a dense network of bus services.ย  You can practically get to anywhere in the city by public transportation just as fast as by private cars.ย  It is also supplemented by efficient and relatively cheap cab mobile app services.

Chewing Gum banned in Singapore.

Not true!ย  You need to know the finer points. Singapore bashers like to bring this up that the society is draconian and a nanny state.ย  Not true, as for as I know, Singapore only ban the import and sales of chewing gum.ย  But you can bring into Singapore chewing gum for your own personal consumption.ย

Why did the Singapore government ban the import and sale of chewing gum?ย  One factor that precipitated this was that vandals have been gumming up the door sensors on the subway (MRT) causing massive delays.

What is the reason for banning Chewing Gum in Singapore?

Why did the Singapore government ban the import and sale of chewing gum?ย  One factor that precipitated this was that vandals have been gumming up the door sensors on the subway (MRT) causing massive delays.

On the behest of Wrigley, the chewing gum issue was even on the agenda of the ย United States-Singapore Free Trade Agreement.ย  Singapore Government now recognise the health benefits of certain gums, such as a brand of sugar-free gum that contains calcium lactate to strengthen tooth enamel and for smoking cessation. Sale of this newly categorised medicinal gum is now allowed including nicotine laced gum.ย  So do read the fine print.
